Columbia Basin split a double header against Walla Walla taking the first game 12-11 before dropping Game 2 16-5.
After a run-filled bonanza in Walla Walla that featured over 70 runs in two games between both teams, today's contest looked more like two good teams squaring off against each other. The Warriors opened up the game with a 5 spot including a grand slam but
Macao Jackson would battle her way through the game.
Harley Raymond had the marquee game at the plate belting two home runs including a solo shot in the 2nd and and 3-run bomb in the 3rd. Trailing just 7-5 late in the 5th, the Hawks were able to claw back ahead 8-7 after a big two-out double from
Keena Kay that plated 2 runs. However, the Warriors smacked two home runs in the 6th to give them the 11-8 lead back headed into the final frame.
The Hawks would not be denied in their comeback attempt as
Ashlynn Nixon wore a pitch to bring home a run. Then it was
Madi Olson with an RBI fielder's choice that set up the game for Raymond. With a 2-2 count, Raymond sent a shallow fly ball to right field but Nixon was able to beat the throw home while sliding under the tag for the game winning run.
Game 2 was not as kind to Basin as walks and errors were too much to overcome at the plate. Using 14 walks to their advantage, the Warriors scored multiple runs in every inning including 8 in the 4th. Jackson was brought back on to try and gut through a second game but she reached her soft pitch limit as she began to tire but competed every minute on the mound.
Stephanie Bryson had a solo shot to lead off the game for the Hawks who also scored a couple runs in the 2nd on a
Graci Brady single and a fielder's choice.
Madi Olson smacked a 2-run home run in the 3rd but the big 4th inning allowed Walla Walla to carry on to the 16-5 final score.
CBC remains in 2nd place in the East 14 games to go. They will host Yakima Valley on Tuesday April 25th as part of a 3-game homestand.
