Columbia Basin defeated Yakima Valley in a pair of home games by scores of 12-6 and 10-2.
Macao Jackson and
Graci Brady combined for 12 innings and just 4 earned runs on the day including a no-hitter from Brady.
Harley Raymond kickstarted things off for CBC with a 3-run home run to give Jackson an early 4-0 lead in the first. Yakima did most of their damage in the 2nd on a 2-run home run that just bounced off the fence in left field. The Yaks scored two more unearned in the frame as both teams had problems with a tight zone at the plate.
Keena Kay got Basin back over the top for good with a 2-RBI double in the 4th before they were able to break it open in the 5th. Kay again tripled in the 5th to bring home one before
Ashlynn Nixon hit a 3-run opposite field homer to left. Jackson was able to give herself one more insurance run with a double of her own in the 6th.
In the circle, Jackson was able to work around some early walks and settle in for 7 complete innings allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs including 7 strikeouts to give CBC the 12-6 win.
In Game 2, Nixon took her turn in the 1st inning with a 3-run shot, her second of the day.
Graci Brady finished her day in the circle with a no-hitter but surrendered 2 runs via walks and sacrifices. In the bottom of the 3rd, Nixon lined one right back up the box just over the head of the Yakima pitcher who got her fingers jammed as she dropped to the ground. The Hawks were unable to score in the inning but were far from done.
In the 4th,
Kendra Hart was able to double in Kay from second. As Nixon stepped into the box, the very next pitch was thrown right into her rib-cage. Nixon and the CBC bench took exception to the pitch as all indications pointed toward some purpose behind that one. However,
Madi Olson made them pay immediately with a 3-run bomb into the trees in left field giving CBC a commanding 9-2 lead heading into the 5th.
Brady was able to shut down the Yaks in order before
Kodi Fraser ended the game early on a bases loaded single that brought home the 10th run giving Basin the early win by run rule 10-2.
The Hawks move to 25-9 on the year (15-5 in conference). They will host Wenatchee Valley at home on Friday before traveling to Big Bend on Saturday. First pitch scheduled for 2pm on Friday afternoon.
