Volleyball clinches East Region title with 5-set win over Treasure Valley

Columbia Basin defeated Treasure Valley at home to clinch its first East Region title since 2021. Zuri Reeser had 18 kills to go with 36 digs in the winning effort.

CBC continued its unbeaten streak in conference Wednesday night but needed 5 sets to beat Treasure Valley. It was not pretty but the Hawks were able to grind through the match playing well at the right times to get the win. With another slow start to Set 1, a few mistakes allowed Treasure to stay in the set even with a 14-9 lead. The Chukars were able to tie it up at 23 and eventually sneak away with the set 30-28.

In Set 2, Basin got going on offense jumping ahead 16-7 and this time, the Chukar mistakes made the difference as a pair of aces from Camille Collins helped lead the way for the 25-13 win. CBC kept the momentum up as Treasure did its best to put pressure on at every corner. A late 7-2 run lead by the defense allowed CBC to take a 2-1 lead, winning 25-20.

A tough Set 4 saw the Chukars race out to an 8-0 lead as the Hawk serve defense looked out of sorts and before they could blink, they were down 9-1. Basin was able to make it a game midway through at 16-14 but the 50/50 balls made their way to the Chukar side as they were able to pound away at the Hawk defense winning 25-17.

CBC would bend but not break as a quick breather allowed them to gather and come out strong in Set 5 with an early 12-6 lead. Treasure was not going to fall easy as they made a strong run to cut the lead to 13-12. A big time dump attack from Yajaira Meraz was good for 14 but an attack error let Treasure cut it to 14-13 but with the game on the line, Reeser found a soft spot in the defense and the Chukars were unable to corral it and CBC would take the match 15-13 and 3-2.

The win moves the Hawks to 21-3 (11-0 East Region). They will breath easy as a surging Spokane team comes to town on Friday for a 6pm match.
