Columbia Basin defeated Spokane at home 3-0 on Friday.
Kaylie Christopher and
Zuri Reeser combined for 27 kills in the three sets to lead the way for CBC over a surgin Spokane team who had won 3 in a row.
Fresh off their big win over Treasure Valley, CBC was asked to take on a Spokane team who had just downed Treasure Valley and Wenatchee Valley convincingly in back to back games. That would be the end of their win streak as CBC left no doubt who the best team in the East is. The Hawks came out strong in all three sets including an early 11-5 lead in Set 1. The serve receive was stellar as
Yajaira Meraz was able to set up the big hits for the Hawks who lead by as many as 8 heading into the first timeout. Spokane tried to mount a little rally but it wasn't enough as Reeser and Christopher went back to back to put away the set 25-21.
Two early attack errors saw the Sasquatch get an early 4-1 lead but that would be their only lead for the rest of the night as Basin roared back with a 7-1 run to climb ahead 10-7. CBC wasn't deterred by the strong blocking of Spokane as they continued to run their offense to perfection. Another 7-2 run late carried Set 2 by a score of 25-19.
Spokane committed 4 serving errors in the third set allowing CBC to build up another 10-5 lead but this time there would be no run by the Sasquatch as Basin put together another 7-2 run full of Spokane miscues including the final attack that CBC blocked straight back into the ground giving them the 25-18 win and the 3-0 sweep.
CBC moves to 23-3 (12-0 East) on the year. They will celebrate their sophomores at home on Wednesday against Blue Mountain in the final regular season home game. They will travel to Yakima in the final game of the year before gearing up the host the East Regional playoff on Saturday November 16th.
