Clark defeated Columbia Basin on Day 2 of the December Invite 68-60.
Ezrah Ray lead the way for CBC with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Amber Swan added 14 points and 16 rebounds in support.Â
CBC got all they could handle as the Clark Penguins came in fresh off their upset win over Walla Walla on Day 1 of the tournament. The physical play from the Penguins forced CBC into a fist fight but the Hawks were able to stand their ground and dictate the tempo. A back-and-forth first quarter saw Clark take an early 18-16 lead but Basin's offensive rebounding allowed them second chance looks as all starters scored in the period lead by Swan's 6 points. In the second quarter, the tempo of the game turned into a transition frenzy as the Hawk defense was able to force some timely turnovers the lead to quick buckets for Swan and Ray who combined for 11 of the Basin 13 in the frame. Clark was able to get a turnover and a quick layin at the buzzer to take the lead back heading into half 31-29.
Outside of halftime, the Hawks looked poised to make a run.
Analyssa Maldonado hit a 3 with 2:46 left in the 3rd to give Basin a 48-44 lead but the Penguins were able to respond with with a 10-0 run to close the period. In the 4th, the pace seemed to catch up to both teams but the Penguins were able to weave in traffic for tough layins while shots did not fall on the CBC side.Â
CBC shot just 5 of 25 from the floor in the 4th as they were just short of a late run to tie it back up. A couple of Clark free throws kept the game just out of reach for the 68-60 final.Â
CBC drops 3-3 on the year but will get a chance to rebound at home where they will play East Region Crossover host to Everett, Lower Columbia and Portland beginning on Thursday, December 12th against Everett with tipoff scheduled for 5pm.
