Game Recap: Baseball |

Up and down day sees Hawks split opener with #3 Linn-Benton

CBC Baseball opened up the 2024 season with a Saturday split against Linn-Benton. The Roadrunners took Game 1 convincingly 6-1 while it was Basin in Game 2 dishing it back out winning 9-2.

Sophomore righty Jack Fenton got the ball in the season opener and was sharp early in the first but ran into some trouble in the 3rd where he gave up a 2-run homer giving Linn-Benton the early 2-0 lead. They would go on to chase Fenton in the top of the 4th after a no-outs wild pitch. Brayden Walls was tasked with getting out of the jam and came close but a sac fly brought home the run to make it 3-0.

At the plate, the Hawks faced a strong lefty who was able to shut down hitters without many opportunities. Basin was able to get runners to first and third in the 5th but three straight punch-outs shut the rally down in a hurry. The Roadrunners would go on pad their lead to 6-0 heading into the 9th. Keven Brekke's 2-out ground ball plated the only run of the game for the Hawks who backed up to the 6-1 final.

GAME 2

Lefty Jake Robinson came out looking for some revenge in Game 2 with a quality outing. The freshman stifled the Runners to just a pair of hits over 5 innings while striking out 5. Meanwhile, CBC got it going at the plate starting with an RBI double from Brekke in the 3rd. In the 4th, a Lance Anderson sac fly and a wild pitch helped extend the lead to 3-0.

The big inning came in the 6th where a couple of big extra base-hits from Caleb Eisenhower and Elijah Havey plated 4 runs in the frame extending the lead to 7-0. Following Robinson on the mound, Simon Lemke steared through a couple of jams allowing just 2 runs over 3 innings.

Another sac fly and past-ball gave the Hawks 2 more runs giving them the 9-2 lead and eventual final when the game was called after 8 innings due to darkness. Both teams will pick back up again Sunday morning for the second day of the 4-game series starting at 11am with Game 4 following 30 minutes after the completion of the morning tilt.
