Game Recap: Baseball |

Basin trades wins; splits series with Roadrunners

Columbia Basin split their second double-header against #3 Linn-Benton on Sunday winning the first game 4-1 in 7 innings and dropping Game 2 11-1 also in 7 innings.

GAME 1

Shortstop Trevor Dale lead off the day with a bang in the first inning with a 3-run shot to left field for the early lead. From there, Dylan Schlenger was on cruise control, shutting down the Linn-Benton offense for 5 strong innings. The righty's only blemish came in the second where an early error gave the Runners their only run of the game. Wyatt Lizama added an insurance run with an RBI ground-out in the third inning which would conclude the scoring for Game 1.

AJ Woodward came on in the 6th for the hold before turning it over to Simon Lemke for the save in the 7th. Both arms combined to allow just one hit while striking out 2.

GAME 2

The final game of the series was all LB. The highly touted offense finally got going in the final game of the series for 11 runs on 14 hits including a first inning homer of their own. CBC's lone run of the game came in third when Kevin Brekke's ground ball to third resulted in an errant throw, bringing home Hagen Bowen. From there, Linn-Benton scored 4 more in the 5th which was more than enough for the 11-1 win in the shortened game.

Basin finishes the weekend with the well-earned split against the perennial power in the South. They will host Southwestern Oregon at home on February 24th/25th for another 4-game series before entering into the East Region Preseason Tournament in March.
