Columbia Basin completed their weekend sweep of Southwestern Oregon by scores of 8-6 and 18-17.
Dylan Schlenger and
James Lawrence recorded wins in the effort for CBC.
A windy Sunday proved to be good for bats, bad for pitching as Columbia Basin looked to continue their winning ways. Starter
Dylan Schlenger was sharp early as
Trevor Dale provided early run support with a 3-RBI triple in the 1st inning before scoring on a sac fly. From there Schlenger was able to strike out 10 in his 5 innings of work but would be charged with 2 runs in the 6th after giving way to the bullpen.Â
The big 6th inning allowed the Lakers to climb back in the game trailing just 7-5 but
Kevin Brekke's RBI double was enough to let
Simon Lemke record the 2-inning save allowing just 1 one hit in the outing. Brekke finished the game 4-5 at the plate while Dale was also 3-4 with 4 RBIs.
GAME 2
The star of Game 2 was flyballs into the wind. Both teams began to show signs of fatigue in the bullpen as the big innings began to mount. Sophomore
Hayden Matray had a big game at the dish logging a 2-RBI triple in the 1st and then a 3-run home run off the scoreboard in the 3rd as the Hawks took a 9-0 lead after 3 innings.
From there, SWOCC finally got to the Hawk staff recording 17 runs over the final 4 innings of the shortened 7-inning game. Despite the 9-0 lead, the Lakers were able to come over the top in the 6th with 6 runs to take a 15-14 lead. In the 7th, they were able to add two more insurance runs needing just 3 outs to finish off CBC.
However, it was not to be as Basin loaded the bases in the 7th. Matray and Dale had back to back singles to cut the lead to 1. Then, on a bases loaded 1-2 count,
Alex Chamberlain connected with a fast ball that was sent down the right field line for the walk-off double handing the win back to the Hawks.
The wins bump CBC's record up to 6-2 on the year. They will host Treasure Valley for a Friday double as part of an East Region friendly weekend with first pitch scheduled for 11am.
