Columbia Basin defeated Yakima Valley 102-89 finishing the regular season on high note.
Ta'Veus Randle had 30 points 9 rebounds and 9 assists while
Javon Handcox and
Latrell Barker each had 20.
After dropping a tough loss in Pendleton on Saturday, CBC was in need of a tuneup before tournament play and they were able to turn in a good one. It was Yakima early with a full court press of their own seemingly giving Basin problems. The Hawks were down 16-10 early but began to get into the paint with Randle and Barker doing damage at will. As the half wore on, Basin began to assert their dominance of the paint and pound away on the Yaks for the 44-38 lead at half.
In the second period, it was all CBC as Randle took the game over in front of the raucous crowd of 500+ fans. Randle was also able to dish it out as well with 5 second half assists leading to a few big lobs to Barker and
Anton Williams. Yakima was able to get it back to a single-digit lead but Randle made sure there would be no comeback with an exclamation point lob to Barker with 1:30 to go bringing the house down.
The win improves CBC's record to 19-8 on the year and 11-3 in East Region play. They will represent the East as the 2-seed and will take on South Puget Sound from the West on Wednesday to open up the tournament at 10am.
