Columbia Basin is headed back to the Final Four as they pulled away in the second half to defeat Shoreline 70-60.
Kenzi Pedersen lead all scorers with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Mickayla Robertson added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in support.
Coming off a grueling slugfest against Portland on Saturday night, the Hawks took the court without starting center
Erin Morgan who was scratched late with an undisclosed injury. Without Morgan, Pedersen and Robertson were asked to pick up the slack inside.
Lexie Heath came out early with a few big 3's as CBC took an early 1st quarter lead but Shoreline was able to get some looks in transition to keep it a 1-point game. Midway through the second quarter with just 2 points, Basin looked a little passive and hesitant to attack the rim. Both teams traded occasional buckets back and forth as the Dolphins took a 1 point lead into half.
Outside of halftime, Heavens was able to get it going off the drive leading CBC to a 21 point quarter and an 8 point lead. Along with Heavens, Pedersen and Robertson stuffed the Shoreline attack near the basket while cleaning up the glass. Midway through the fourth quarter, Shoreline hit back to back 3's to cut the lead to 7 but Heavens and
Trinidie Nichols were able to get to the rim in transition to stave off any comeback attempt. Five different Hawks scored in double figures to overcome a poor shooting night from the outside. Following Heath's two early makes, Basin shot just 3 of 21 from downtown but it wouldn't matter as they were able to keep the Dolphins off the free throw line for the 10 point win.
CBC will get to face the winner of Lane and Edmonds in the Final Four, Saturday March 16th, right back on Holden Court. Walla Walla and Umpqua will fight for the other championship birth prior to the game.Â
