CBC and Lower Columbia split the opening day of their 4-game series as #1 vs. #3 had all eyes on Pasco. CBC took game 1 5-3 while LCC needed extra innings to overtake the Hawks 9-2.
GAME 1
In the biggest series of 2024, #3 CBC squared off against #1 Lower Columbia. With both aces going in Game 1, it was
Jack Fenton who outdueled Hunter Lutman in a pitchers game. Fenton had his A-stuff working 5 innings allowing just 3 hits and no runs striking out 6. The Hawks struck first with
Brayden Mayencourt drawing a bases loaded walk. From there, Fenton was stellar holding down the fort before being pulled on a pitch count.
Simon Lemke was tasked with getting the hold and the freshman did allow one but CBC broke it open in the 8th with 4 runs off a few LCC miscues. Lemke needed a 2-out save from
Brayden Walls to finish off the Red Devils 5-3.
Alex Chamberlain and
Christian Jarocki lead the hitting with 2 hits and an RBI a piece.
GAME 2
Another pitching duel saw
Jake Robinson start off with 3 walks early leading to 2 first inning runs but settling in from there. The lefty struck out 8 in his next 4 innings allowing no more runs. The Hawks chipped away with 1 in the second on a
Hagen Bowen RBI single and then 1 in the third on a Chamberlain RBI double.
After the 2-2 tie in the third, neither team was able to plate a run with LCC's Hunter Grasser shutting the Basin offense down. After an early out in the 10th, the Red Devils were able to capitalize big on a few walks for a 7-run 10th as Basin succommed 9-2 to save pitching for region play.
