Hawks suffer tough break in Game 2; drop 2 to Bigfoot

Spokane defeated Columbia Basin in a pair of East Region games in Pasco by scores of 17-12 and 8-7.

GAME 1

CBC jumped out ahead early to a 3-1 lead after 1 inning. Leia Duropan and Raquel Palmeira combined for 3 RBIs in the frame. Stephanie Bryson tipled in a run in the second while Bree Waldron and Bailey Hausenbuiller each doubled in the 3rd inning giving the Hawks a 9-1 lead.

From there, pitching woes saw Spokane climb back into the game after some untimely walks and a handful of singles. A Waldron home run in the 6th gave Basin the lead at 12-11 but the Sasquatch continued to plate runs with 6 more in the 7th which Basin could not match as Spokane took Game 1 17-12.

GAME 2

Both teams got locked in a pitching duel in Game 2. The Bigfoot scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning to take the early 3-0. Hausenbuiller singled in one in the 2nd before Duropan hit back-to-back home runs to in the 3rd and 5th to tie it up at 3. Newcomer Anna Marie Shaffer turned in a few innings in the circle scattering 6 hits.

Still at 3-3 in the 6th, Spokane scored two runs and then 3 more in the 7th taking an 8-3 lead. Bryson homered in the bottom of the 7th before Duropan hit her 3rd home run of the game closing the gap to 8-6. Raquel Palmeira singled but was thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch a wild pitch into two bases. The very next pitch, Waldron sent a towering shot over the left field fence for the 7th run but it wasn't enough as Spokane held on for the 8-7 win.

The Hawks will get a chance to rebound at home on Saturday against Walla Walla with first pitch scheduled for 12pm in Pasco.
