Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hawks survive early scare; down Bigfoot 2-1

Columbia Basin defeated Spokane at home 2-1 to remain atop the East table. Rafael Lucio and Carlos Camacho were the goal scorers on the day with Danial Farias assisting on Camacho's goal.

After a relatively disappointing tie in Walla Walla, CBC needed a win to get back on track towards another region title. Early on, it was Spokane who got on the board early off a free kick that was misplayed by the defense. The Bigfoot were intent on trying to up the physicality and muscle their way over Basin. Despite the punch in the mouth, the Hawks responded with high speed and intensity forcing Spokane into bad fouls. Alan Castro had a header deflected away by a defensive save.

Deep into stoppage time of the first half, Basin earned a free kick just outside of the box. Lucio has made free kicks into his specialty and he was again able to convert this attempt for the equalizer heading into half. With Spokane's momentum completely erased, Basin would take it from there. In the 59th minute, Farias came down the left side before sending a beautiful cross to a streaking Camacho who put it away for the eventual game winner.

The Hawks did miss two open-netters and were nearly awarded a PK but Spokane's hard play lead to 6 cards while CBC was able to navigate around contact all day.

The Hawks now remain atop the East now at 4-0-1 holding a 5 point lead over Walla Walla. They will return to the home pitch on Saturday in a rematch against Walla Walla with kickoff scheduled for 12pm.
