Big Bend defeated Columbia Basin in Pasco 69-65. Four Hawks scored in double figures lead by
Amber Swan's 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Ezrah Ray added 16 and 9 rebounds.
After a hard fought game in Moses Lake the first time around, CBC came prepared for another slugfest. With a well-crafted scheme in place, Basin jumped out to an early lead in the first. Big Bend was focused on their height advantage in the paint but the defense held good enough to stay ahead by creating turnovers.
Sadie Tanner got hot in the second quarter with back-to-back buckets including a deep 3 while Ray was able to take advantage of the Viking defense at the rim leading to a 32-30 lead for CBC at half.
The Vikings hit their stride in the 3rd quarter with a handful of contested 3's that catapulted them back into a 5 point lead midway through the quarter. Big Bend would carry that into a 9-point advantage after the third leaving Basin with the chance to come back with one more counter attack.
Tanner and Ray pulled up with a 5-0 run against the Viking zone to cut the lead down to 60-57 but Tanner's 3 rimmed in and out before the Vikings took an off-balance runner that banked in for a and-1. From there, the Vikings hit 2 free throws late to stave off 3's from Swan and Maldonado for the 69-65 final.
The loss moves CBC to 4-5 in conference play but following a win in Spokane, the Hawks still hold control of the 4-seed with 5 games left to play. They will host Wenatchee Valley for Sophomore Night on Saturday February 15th.
