Game Recap: Baseball |

Hawk hitters lead Baseball in two wins in home opener

Columbia Basin defeated Grays Harbor in a home double-header to open up a 4-game series by scores of 11-5 and 15-0. Brayden Walls and Riley Whitlow were credited with the win in both games with plenty of run support.

GAME 1

After losing their road series against Linn-Benton to rain, the Hawks opened up the 2025 season at home against Grays Harbor. Sophomore lefty Brayden Walls got the ball in the opener and was stellar on his limited pitch count. A couple of double-plays kept the Hawks off the board early but Caleb Eisenhower knocked in the first run with an infield single in the second inning. From there it was all downhill. Ethan Stewart singled in 2 in the bottom of the Third while Elliott Taylor and Elijah Havey went back-to-back singles to cap off a big 4-run 4th inning.

Walls finished 5 strong while striking out 5 and allowing just 3 hits. The Chokers got on the board with a pair in the top of the 7th but Basin came right back lead by an RBI double from freshman Caden Yesford. Harbor got on the board for 3 more but it wasn't enough as the 11 runs proved plenty for CBC to cruise to the eventual 11-5 finish.

GAME 2

Freshman Riley Whitlow took the hill in the second game and was also given more than enough run support to log a scoreless outing. Whitlow gave up just 2 hits in his 4 innings of long work. The freshman was seen playing catch outside of the dugout while his offense put together 4 big innings at the plate.

Combined with wild pitching and timely hitting, the Hawks scored 6 runs in the first inning lead by 2 hits from Cole Rohlmeier in the inning and a 2-rbi double from Braiden Bond. It was Rohlmeier again in the 2nd inning with his third hit of the game before Xavier Streadbeck landed a bases clearing double just between center and right field. Even with the 10-0 lead after two, Basin was not done.

Yesford, Rohmeier and James Lawrence produced RBIs in the 3rd for a 5-run inning and a huge 15-0 lead. After Whitlow, newcomer Vinny Rein polished off the 5th inning before darkness with 0 runs and 2 strikeouts handing CBC the 15-0 win and the sweep of the day.

Both teams will return to the field on Sunday for a wet end to the 4-game series starting at 11am. CBC begins 2025 at 2-0 on the year.
