Softball lights the bats up in double-header sweep of Chemeketa

Columbia Basin defeated Chemeketa at home in a pair of games by scores of 17-2 and 11-4. Lauryn Krick and Peighton Fuhriman logged complete game wins in the circle for the Hawks.

GAME 1

After moving their roadtrip around, CBC wound up back at home for 4 games against the Storm. Chemeketa struck first with a 2-run home run in the First but that would be it from there as Krick pitched 4 more innings of shutout ball. At the plate, Krick gave herself some insurance with a towering 2-run home run to left as part of a 3-run first inning. Sophomore shortstop Kaylie Christopher had a big game with 2 home runs, good for 4 RBIs in the game.

As Krick began to settle in, the offense exploded for a 12-run 4th inning punctuated by Christopher's 3-run home run and two doubles by Krick herself. Her 5-RBI game at the plate alone was more than enough support for herself as she allowed just 3 hits while striking out 5 in the shortened 17-2 game.

GAME 2

Freshman Peighton Fuhriman took the circle in Game 2 for her first career appearance. Like Krick, she also went 5 complete. striking out 5 and scattering 7 hits. Leia Duropan tripled in the Second for a pair of RBIs before Bree Waldron brought her home for an early 4-1 lead after 2. Raquel Palmeira homered to left for 3 more in the bottom of the Third. Palmeira tripled again in the 4th as part of 4-run inning including RBIs from Fuhriman, Halli Lott and Payton Dressler.

As the sun began to set and darkness crept in, Chemeketa took advantage of a couple of walks and a sharp single to center to plate 2 more runs but Fuhriman shut the door immediately with back-to-back strikeouts to finish off the Storm in a darkness shortened 11-4 game.

The Hawks start off 2-0 and will face Chemeketa again on Sunday for two more, weather permitting with a start time of 11am.
