Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla in a pair of games by scores of 6-1 and 12-2.
Lauryn Krick and
Peighton Fuhriman earned complete game wins in both while holding the Warriors to just 3 runs on the day.
GAME 1
In their biggest East Region test to date, CBC needed a strong outing from starter lauryn Krick. Krick spun a gem allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits while the sophomore righty struck out 13 batters. The offense was a little stagnant to begin the contest but Krick was able to help herself out at the plate with a solo shot in the 2nd and a 2-run shot in the 5th. A big 5th inning gave CBC a 5-0 lead before
Raquel Palmeira hit a solo home run to right field for the 6th and final run for the Hawks.
Walla Walla plated just one unearned in the top of the 7th but Krick immediately shut the door for the 6-1 final.
GAME 2
The Warriors got on the board first with back-to-back single run innings but starter
Peighton Fuhriman navigated around trouble all game. Krick again put Basin on the board with a 2-run home run to tie it up at 2. The bats broke open in the 3rd as
Halli Lott singled in a run before a huge grand slam from
Jaycee Jacobson giving Furhiman a big 7-2 cushion. From there, the freshman shut down the Warriors for 3 straight innings.
Leia Duropan crushed a 2-run homer in the 4th while just 3 batters later
Kaylie Christopher sent a 3-run shot into the trees in left field. Walla Walla loaded the bases in the top of the 5th but Fuhriman was able to induced a ground ball to get the final out of the game for the 12-2 final.
The wins move CBC to 28-2 on the year as they currently sit #2 in the RPI rankings behind undefeated Lower Columbia. The Hawks will get a bye before returning to action on Friday the 25th at home against Blue Mountain starting at 2pm.
