Columbia Basin closed out a 79–77 home win over Wenatchee Valley on Friday after leading for most of the night and surviving a late push in the final minute.
The Hawks finished with a 23–13 advantage after the first quarter and carried a 43–27 lead into halftime, shooting 50 percent from the field in the opening half. Amber Swan led the offense throughout, scoring a game-high 29 points on 8-of-12 shooting and going 11-of-15 at the free-throw line. Swan also added 10 rebounds to record a double-double in 30 minutes.
Wenatchee Valley adjusted defensively in the third quarter, outscoring Columbia Basin 21–19 and trimming the margin to 62–48 heading into the fourth. The visiting Knights continued to close the gap behind strong perimeter shooting, as Cylia St. Pierre hit four three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Ariana Ramos added 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Columbia Basin relied on balanced contributions to hold on late. Sadie Tanner scored 13 points with six rebounds and four assists, while Ezrah Ray added 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals in 37 minutes. Hailey Jamison logged 39 minutes and contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Wenatchee Valley cut the deficit to two in the final minute, but Columbia Basin made enough stops to secure the win despite being outscored 29–17 in the fourth quarter. The Hawks finished with four players in double figures and held a narrow rebounding edge, led by Swan and Ray in the front court.
The win improves Columbia Basin to 14–5 overall and 4–2 in conference play. They will host Treasure Valley in a rematch of their previous defeat in Ontario.
