Columbia Basin fell to Blue Mountain at home 94-86.
Levi Pepper and
Alex Wells combined for 48 points to lead the way for the Hawks.
In need of a win or Spokane loss, CBC was unable to convert at home in a hotly contested game between the two teams. Basin jumped ahead early in the first but the Timberwolves came up with some clutch 3's to keep them in it. As the half wore on, both coaches and players seemed exasperated at some the officiating which resulted in the multiple technical fouls on either side as Blue Mountain took a 53-41 lead into the half.
The Hawks came roaring back in the second with help from
Zander Kamai as well as Pepper and Wells working at the rim. The Hawks cut it to 2 with 7 minutes to go before being hit with a phantom technical foul and a reviewed common foul that was upgraded to flagrant to the dismay of the CBC bench. Blue Mountain was able convert free throws to keep it back at a 10 point game the rest of the way leading to the 94-86 final.
With the Spokane loss, CBC moves into a tie for 3rd with Yakima Valley. The Hawks will need either a win or a Yakima Valley loss on Wednesday to secure the 3-seed. They will host Walla Walla in the final regular season contest at home Wednesday February 25th at 5pm.
