Columbia Basin split a double-header at home with the Chemeketa Storm by scores of 15-13 and 11-2.
GAME 1
Â
Columbia Basin survived a back-and-forth seven-inning battle at home, outlasting Chemeketa 15-13 behind a balanced offensive attack that produced 14 hits and nine walks.
Laci Ross was a catalyst in the middle of the order, going 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, and three RBI. Halli Lott reached base four times in two at-bats — drawing two walks and doubling home two runs. Jaycee Jacobson knocked in three runs on two hits, including a two-RBI single in a four-run first inning that set the early tone.
Maddy Blood contributed on both sides, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI at the plate while also logging time in the circle after relieving Dallaney Unseth. Macey McCuistion reached base five times, drawing two walks and tripling home a run in the sixth to push the lead back to two.
Basin scored in every inning through six, building enough of a cushion to hold off a five-run Chemeketa seventh and secure the Game 1Â win.
GAME 2
The Hawks dropped the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 11-2 to Chemeketa in a six-inning contest.
The Hawks managed just four hits and were unable to generate consistent offense against Chemeketa starter S. Qualls, who went the distance, allowing only two earned runs on four hits while striking out two. Columbia Basin's lone bright spots came from Ross, who doubled in a run in the first inning, and Rylee Miller, who singled home a run in the third to keep the score at 9-2 after three innings.
The home half of the third was Columbia Basin's best opportunity, as Hannah Robertson doubled, Blood reached on a hit-by-pitch, and Miller delivered a run-scoring single with two outs. But the Hawks left two runners stranded.
Columbia Basin stranded seven runners total across the game and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the tough outcome.
The Hawks will turn around Sunday to take on perennial power Mt. Hood in an 11am double-header to cap off the weekend.
