Box Score FINAL SCORE: CBC 76 YVC 88
Another big first half effort fell just short on Saturday evening. CBC raced out to an 18 point lead during the first half lead by
Denzel Brantley's 10 points. The Hawks were able to move the ball and find open shooters early who knocked down shot after shot. On the defensive end,
Brandon Baker and
Sergio Pineda helped create tough looks and forced turnovers that lead to easy transition looks.
Yakima struggled shooting from the floor early but a late 5 point swing helped cut the lead to 12 headed into halftime. Pineda and
Carson Cloaninger each tallied 7 points for CBC on the half.Â
Coming out of the locker room, Brantley and company struggled to keep the momentum behind the 3-point line. Cloaninger was only able to connect of 3 from deep in the second half as Yakima's physical play and intensity lead them back in the game.Â
Frustrated by the early foul discrepancy, CBC did not seem to get many breaks going their way while on the other end, Yakima shot 37 free throws compared to just 12 for the home team.Â
The Hawks were able to convert only 13 makes on 37 looks for 34%. Despite the rough finish, there is optimism as CBC again took another strong East team down to the wire coming up just short.
Their next chance to rebound will be Monday against an undefeated North Idaho squad. Due to MLK day, that game will take place at 4pm instead of the usual weeknight time of 7:30.
