Former Kentucky State Men's and Women's Volleyball coach
DiShondra Goree accepted the position of Head Volleyball Coach on Monday October 12th.
Goree spent two seasons leading the KSU program to a playoff contender with a combined record of 48-36 in the two years placing second in the SIAC conference in 2018 and 2019 (16-2). Prior to KSU, Goree helped rebuild a struggling Shaw University program from a 1-19 team to a perennial NCAA tournament regional qualifier. In her final year at Shaw, her team finished with a 25-7 record earning her CIAA Coach of the Year honors.Â
Coach G expects to continue her successful track record beginning in the new spring NWAC schedule. "I am most looking forward to building a successful volleyball program and cultivating meaningful relationships with a great group of young ladies." said Goree. "I have coached at the Division II level for the past 6.5 seasons and it was a great experience! My previous positions have allowed me to recruit great talent from two-year colleges all over the U.S. I know what it takes to be successful at the next level and I can assist my players in preparing for that next level of play."
Her skills as a mentor to young student-athletes will no doubt translate well to her new position as head coach/completion coach on campus. "My goal is to build winners on and off the court! It's so much bigger than volleyball. It is my desire to help them become better students and prepare them for the world." Goree has always prioritized academics with her teams which has shown big payoffs in her players' development. Former Shaw standout Kelly Murphy was named CIAA conference Student Athlete of the Year in 2016 under Goree's mentorship.
Goree will take the reins at CBC in the upcoming weeks with a team comprised of a strong group of Sophomores and freshman contributors. "As a mentor and person, I pride myself on being open-minded, organized, and focused. I will motivate my players to be their best. Goal setting is very important to me so we will discuss how I can help them achieve their dreams!"Â
CBC will open up non-league play against Wenatchee Valley on February 13th in Wenatchee. They will take the court at home for the first time on February 20th against Yakima Valley, also in non-league play.
