Columbia Basin dropped a close one to Walla Walla at home in an entertaining game from start to finish.
Miguel Hernandez had 18 points followed by
Kaden Padour's 11. The Hawks shot 47% in the first half lead by
Carson Cloaninger's 9 points in the period. Both teams played extra physical often leading to hard fouls. Walla Walla continually forced the ball inside with little to no avail as
Grayson Nelson helped turn shots away.
Walla Walla made an early push just after halftime tying the game back up at 41. CBC endured a cold stretch from the outside that lasted for 5 minutes. During that time the Warriors went on a 15-6 run to pull ahead 48-42.
But back came the Hawks with their own run to tie it up at 68-68 with 5:30 to go lead by
Miguel Hernandez and
Brandon Baker. Both teams traded blows back and forth all the way down the stretch including some great plays by Baker.
Walla Walla converted and And-1 by Faust Ystueta followed by a Jake Poulton 3 to bury CBC with :52 seconds to go that put the game out of reach. A few deep attempts and a
Ryan Wolf lay-in were not enough as The Warriors finished the game off at the line.
CBC gets one more chance to knock off first place North Idaho on Wednesday February 26th which will be the final game of the 2020 season.
