Rocket League Finishes First in West; Overwatch 2 and Valorant Second as all Teams Prepare for Regional Playoffs

Esports teams went into week 7 of the NJCAAE Division 1 fall season the last week of regular season play. It was a exciting week for all teams as all three of Columbia Basins Esports teams were competing for a regional title.

Rocket league kicked off their doubleheader match with a series against North Dakota State College of science. The Hawks started up one game due to a delayed game violation from NDSCS in the best of five. Quickly into the first game CBC struck first with Miguel "leaf" Jinez finding an early goal just 17 seconds into the game. NDSCS struck back quickly tying the game up 1 to 1, then both teams found themselves at a standstill until just past the three-minute mark where the Hawks found the back of the net taking the lead. CBC were able to find 2 late goals, winning game 1 4-1. In game 3, CBC took the lead 2 minutes into the match, but NDSCS tied the game with a minute at 30 seconds, which led to overtime play. However, CBC Hawks were able to quickly find a goal in OT, winning the series 3-0. This took CBC to their anticipated rematch against Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), where both teams were playing for being the West Region Champions. CBC fell short against SLCC in their first match up in a game 5, but the Hawks were ready to give it their all this time around. Game 1 the Hawks seemed to be struggling with PremiereBump, Yaxon, and Leaf in starting rotation, losing game 1 with the score of 6-1. For an attempt to raise motivation, CBC Head Coach Joel Harvey made a substitution change by bringing in Brigham "Brigamortis1881" Stromberg in for Yaxon into game 2. It was a back-and-forth contest between both teams, trading goals all the way through the match. CBC Rocket League was able to find the go-ahead goal with a connection from PremiereBump and Leaf, and then playing lock-down defense to win game 2 to tie the series 1-1. The Hawks were able to use the momentum to win game 3 with an outstanding performance on offense and score of 7-1. Game 4, CBC were able to close it out with a score of 3-1, winning the series 3-1, and securing the West Region title for the fall 2025 season and #1 seed going into Regional Playoffs.

Overwatch 2 went up against Bryant & Stratton VA (BSVA) and Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC). CBC and BSVA as the remaining undefeated teams for the regular season, both were looking to secure the regional title for the fall season. Due to a delay of game violation, CBC went up 1 game before start of play. Moving on to map 2 of King's Row, CBC began on the defender's side. On their defense, the Hawks showed moments of holding at various points, with the third point nearly holding BSVA from finishing the map with only 5.3 seconds left in their time bank. CBC were unable to find any luck on the attack, and Bryant & Stratton VA tied up the series 1-1. Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to find any progress on the next two maps, leading to their first lost on the season to BSVA, 7-times previous season National Champions, 1-3. With the loss and following series win against WITCC 3-0, CBC secured a #2 finish regionally and seed going Regional Playoffs.

Valorant faced off against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) for week 7 and for the West Region title and as the "Match of the Week" for the NJCAAE. Starting off on map 1 "Haven," CBC found struggle early in the first 5 rounds, going down 4-1 in the first to 13 points. The separation continued for NEO, taking another lead jump up to 8-3, forcing CBC to take their timeout for the half to try to regroup to win the final round before switching sides. The Hawks were able to secure the round win, going into 8-4 to the half. Both teams traded rounds between each other, but it was a quick 3-round run NEO to close out the first map 13-6. On map 2 "Abyss" CBC came out strong with a quick 4-2 round lead after the first 6 rounds. After a spark from NEO to bring the score closer to 4-5, CBC used their timeout to slow the tempo of NEO and regroup. Telekit on the side of CBC found 3 eliminations to increase their lead to 4-6, but NEO was able to tie the match at 6-6 for the halftime switch. CBC took the advantage in the first 4 rounds, increasing their lead to 9-7 with an impressive flank from Noah Bealey. NEO was able to quickly tie it up again at 9-9, before going on run of 3 rounds in a row to put it to match point 12-9. The Hawks on their final life had to force up in their buy and the task of winning 3 rounds in a row to force overtime. With an impressive showing from the Hawks, CBC were able to win 3 rounds in a row to force a 12-12 overtime, win by 2 scenario. Into the first sides of Overtime, both teams were able to trade, taking the score to 13-13, taking it to a doble-overtime round. CBC was able to close it out in the double-overtime finish, winning map 2 15-13. CBC struggled though on map 3 "Sunset" with an unfortunate loss of 1-13. CBC finished #2 in the West Region for placement and seeding into regional playoffs.
