Box Score FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 67 Blue Mountain 47
After waiting a full preseason to return to their home floor, CBC did not disappoint for the home crowd.
Ali Martineau lead the way for the Hawks with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Sami Sanders also netted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
In the early going, Blue Mountain paced
Roosevelt Smith's team to an early 18-14 lead after 1 quarter. Brooke Wheeler scored 7 for the Timberwolves as early foul trouble sat CBC point guard
Allexus Montelongo down with 2 fouls in the first 3 minutes. Martineau and company shot just 33% on the period.
Quarter 2 set a defensive tone for CBC as they held the Timberwolves to only 6 points. The Hawks forced 5 turnovers and held Blue Mountain to only 2-19 from the field.
Isabella Gutierrez grabbed 3 steals and 2 rebounds to help propel CBC out to a 6 point lead at half.
The second half was all CBC. After an even 3rd period, Martineau got hot from the field. She converted all 3 shots and 2 free throws to help CBC push their lead to 20. Coach Smith came out with a full court press that stifled the Blue Mountain attack. Again, Blue Mountain only shot 2-17 from the floor while turning it over 5 more times.
On the afternoon, CBC shot 40% from the floor including 6 of 16 from deep. The win bumps their record up to 1-1 in league (4-10 overall). They will be on the road again this coming Wednesday as they travel to Moses Lake to take on the reigning East Region champs, the Big Bend Vikings.
