CBC Esports had an active week of matches with top-ranked Valorant taking on Salt Lake Community College. The Hawks took a bit of time to settle in to the first round but was able to take Map 1 off of SLCC with a 13-9 win on Bind. CBC came out swinging in map 2, Breeze, which was picked by SLCC. A couple of flawless rounds with all players still standing and a major 1 vs 4 clutch round win by Yungchicken3, the Hawks took the victory 13-2, improving their record to 3-0 and sitting as the #1 seed in their group. "It's honestly really exciting that we are still undefeated," said Decland "DJFALLEN" Porter after the win. "There are so many gifted teams out there and realizing how to hit sights faster and what to do when something goes wrong is where we need to focus on to continue to be the best in the league." CBC Valorant faces off against #2 undefeated South Puget Sound this Thursday, February 29th, with both teams looking to remain atop the group.
In Rocket League, the Hawks faced off against Yavapai College and Mountain View College. The Hawks had an exhausting first game against YC, which was forced into overtime at 1-1 after regulation. At 9 minutes into OT, Yavapai netted the winning goal to give them the 1-0 lead in the best of 5 series. CBC was unable to climb back after the long first match and fell to YC 1-3. With time to regroup and recharge before going into the second match against Mountain View College, the Hawks came out soaring and taking a quick 2-0 lead after 2 games, with Evan "KripticXG" Harvill picking up a hat-trick of 4 goals scored in the second game. MVC fought back and took the next two games forcing a game 5. CBC was able to turn in their best game of the night with Harvill turning another hat trick on the way to the match clinching 7-3 win. "We all played pretty well in the first series against YC, they just capitalized on our mistakes," Harvill said following the Yavapai match. "Last game against MVC I was just trying to stay on the ball and keep everything on their half and minimize our mistakes."
Rocket League will take on Laredo Community College, Friday, March 1st, before starting the second cycle of group play against Trinity Valley Community College in the second match of the double-header.
