Box Score 2 Columbia Basin dropped the opening game of region play against Wenatchee Valley 6-4. Game 2 was halted due to rain and will be picked back up in Wenatchee.
After a big series win against Spokane, CBC couldn't carry the momentum over as they dropped the Wenatchee Valley opener at home. Starter
Branson Rozier struggled through the first 3 innings before
Jason Schuler came on in relief.
The Knights were able to use a couple of walks and hit-by-pitches to capitalize early with a 4-run first inning. Basin got right on the board immediately with a leadoff home run from
Andrew Lehman to kick-start the offense. The Hawks scored again in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI single from
Sy Waldron. As a rally began to mount, two crucial base-running errors lead to outs at home plate to leave CBC with just the one run in the frame.
After coming on in relief, Schuler was lights out as he finished 6 and a third allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. Another two runs in the 5th for CBC to make it 6-4 but another 3 runners left on base would force Basin to stay trailing. No more rallies came as Wenatchee was able to thwart another bases loaded jam in the 7th leaving CBC empty-handed. As zeros ticked across the board for both teams, the Hawks would drop 6-4 in the opener.
In Game 2 with the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 4th,
Cohen Sunich singled to right field but again another baserunner was cut down at home plate for the second out of the inning. After a walk to load the bases, a deep fly ball by
Kevin Brekke was hauled in at the warning track in left, leaving two runs off the board for CBC and the game still tied at 2-2.
As the thunder and rain set in, the game was halted and will resume Saturday in Wenatchee Valley prior to the already-scheduled double-header at 1pm.
