Both the CBC Men and Women's golf teams took home medal honors in their opening tournament at Horn Rapids. Freshman
Jesus Castaneda carded a +1 on the weekend to lead the way for the Men who held off a surging Southwestern Oregon. Freshman
Adri Ruffing lead the way with a +24 for the Women who won by 31 stokes in the team results.
With fresh faces everywhere in the program, the men took an early Day 1 lead turning in a 307 lead by a 72 from Castaneda. Day 2 saw CBC hit their stride and begin to pad their lead over Southwestern Oregon, who made a late run to try and close the gap but came up short.
Apollos Morris' turned in a 72 while Castaneda and
Lucas Badger were close behind with a 73 and 74 respectively. Badger's 74 was the key as he rallied from a Day 1 80 to improve 6 strokes. Castaneda would finish second on the individual list with a +1 missing out on medalist honors by 1 stroke.
On the Women's side, it was all CBC all tournament. The Hawks took a commanding 10 stroke lead on Day 1 lead by 85's from Ruffing and
McKenzie Stanley. Lone sophomore
Rose McCartney was close with an 86. On Day 2, Basin was able to separate from the rest of the pack as Ruffing and McCartney stayed locked in with 83's to pace the team to the 31 stoke lead and medal. Ruffing's +24 was good for 4th place honors on the individual list.Â
The Hawks will travel to Montana State Billings to compete in a 4-year tournament on October 13th which will conclude their Fall season. They will return to competition in April where they will begin their hunt for another NWAC title.
