Columbia Basin College Athletic Hall of Fame
Richard Hannan graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, attending Columbia Basin College as a basketball athlete in the 1959-60 season.
Graduating from Eastern Washington with a BA in Education, Hannan went on to earn a Masters’ Degree in Guidance and Counseling.Â
Hannan was a teacher and basketball coach at North Central from 1963-1967. He continued to play competitively as a player-coach with Vaughn Realty, playing in an AAU National Championship game in 1968.
From 1967-1974, Hannan served as a Professor and basketball coach at Columbia Basin College. His 1972 championship team brought the NWAC title back to CBC for the first time since 1965.
Hannan took his talents to Lewis-Clark State College in 1974, where he worked as the Athletic Director and basketball coach until 1989. While at LCSC, Hannan worked tirelessly to bring the NAIA Baseball Championships to Lewiston. He helped develop the tournament into the most successful championship event in the history of the NAIA, developing significant revenue programs for both LCSC and the national conference
Hannan served as the AD at Weber State University from 1989-92, and in the same capacity at Texas State University from 1992-96. He worked as the Commissioner of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference from 2001-2012.
Hannan is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, NWAC Hall of Fame, and LCSC Hall of Fame.
